Travelblog: MY STORY
Ever since I was very young I always loved to travel! For practical and financial reasons, we always took the car when we went on holidays, both for summer vacations in the Southern Europe as well as ski trips to the snowy mountains in the North . My earliest memories of travels are from Spain, where we used to go every year to visit family. It is fair to say that my love for the sun, sea, experiences (and tapas<3) come from our little spanish pearl. When I think back on our holidays, I think of cozy houses in the mountains, mobile-homes, trips to the big capitals like Paris, Rome and New York and summerhouse-trips. I am so grateful to have traveled so much with my family. We have had the best times playing card games on the terrace, trying local dishes in restaurants and beach days!
This is my journey
2016/2017
My first time in The States
When I was in 8th grade, my mom took my hand and said "We're going to New York!" - this would be my first time in The States. The following summer we were back in USA with the rest of the family, this time in Florida. Three weeks in a pickup-truck, lizards in the backyard and a lot of burgers!
2018
A year on foreign exchange
Exactly a year later, 15 years old, I am waving goodbye to my family in Copenhagen Airport - I was going on exchange in Dallas, Texas for 10 months. A year that for sure changed my life.
2022
Graduation and gap year
I 2019 I returned to Denmark to start high school. In 2022 I graduated and finally I was able to start my gap year. I worked four jobs for about a year, and I was so eager to travel. (I went to high school in the peak of Covid, so it was not possible to travel a lot during these years.) More specifically I wanted to go to Central-America and Australia. My parents travelled a lot too in their young days, and especially my dad told me so many stories from the Outback in Australia and crazy busrides in Mexico. So I don't think it was a coincidence that I wanted to go to these places, specifically.
2023
Volunteering, Costa Rica & Panama
December 2022, four months after my graduation, I was burned out in my office job and needed some time away. I had heard of Workaway and I thought it would be fun to volunteer on a boat in Panama. So very spontaneously, I buy flight tickets to Panama, where I would spend five weeks. Long story short, I only end up volunteering for 1 week. I met some lovely girls, which I ended up travelling Costa Rica with. Nothing went according to plan, however it was much better than I could imagine. Also, it was a wakeup call for me - backpacking was definetely for me!
2023/2024
6 months - 2 continents - 5 countries
After saving up for a year, august 28th was the day I started my trip around the world - all alone. Only me and my backpack. I did not really have a specific plan. I had bought a one-way ticket to Sydney, Australia, where I was visiting my friend. I also knew which countries I wanted to see - but in the end I let fate decide what my travels would bring.
2024
Why did I start the blog Sofias-Stories?
Undervejs på min rejse fik jeg en masse spørgsmål fra venner og bekendte - hvordan planlagde jeg min rute, hvad var mit budget og hvor nemt var det at møde andre at rejse med? Og så slog det mig - en rejseblog! Jeg har altid godt kunne lide at skrive og være kreativ, og dét, sammen med mine rejser, tænkte jeg var et perfekt grundlag for sådan en blog. Her kunne jeg gøre noget, jeg synes er sjovt og samtidig (forhåbentlig) hjælpe andre med deres rejse. Og så er det en vildt god udfordring.
I vores generation bliver det mere og mere populært at tage ud i verden (because why not). Ikke kun fordi vi har muligheden, men fordi vi søger at blive klogere på os selv, og hvad vi vil. Det lyder meget kliché, men det er faktisk præcis det, der sker, når man fjerner sig selv fra sine normale omgivelser og ser verden. Man finder pludselig ud af, hvad der er vigtigt. Derfor håber jeg, at den her rejseblog kan være et forum for alle, der har den passion. Jeg håber, at jeg kan formidle, hvad det vil sige at have sabbatår og blive klogere på sig selv. Jeg håber den kan være en inspiration og noget, nogen kan spejle sig i - fra ung til ung. Så mega velkommen til min rejseblog, dig der læser det her - jeg håber du vil følge med <33
